Solomon Melamid

Rich man with unmarried daughters.

Biography

S4E5 - Solomon invites Rose down to his estate for an interview, and hires her to find matches for his daughters.

S4E6 - When the Matchmaker Mafia (Benedetta, Miss Em, Molly, Gitta) learns that Rose has been stepping on their turf by doing matchmaking for the Melamids (who are Jews, and thus Gitta’s domain), they invite her out to Brighton Beach under the guise of a luncheon for women who own small businesses. When she gets there, they reveal their true intentions, and openly threaten violence against Rose if she does not stop.

Quotes & Dialogue

ROSE: Hmm. Your house, my goodness, it's even more stunning than it looked in Town & Country.
SOLOMON: My great-grandfather had it built in 1840. We throw on another wing from time to time - birthdays, Hanukkah.
ROSE: Hmm, your family's in the railroad business.
SOLOMON: Railroad, shipping, steel. We're eyeing aviation. Innovation's key. Stagnation is death. You're a businesswoman; you know all this.
– S4E5
ROSE: You just need someone to screen out the schemers and find the man who will love Lorraine for who she is and not what she has.
SOLOMON: And I need to be able to bring my daughters' husbands into the family business. They can't be idiots, or obvious idiots.
ROSE: Well, Mr. Melamid, I assure you I can find some very nice men who are not obviously idiots and will make Norma and Lorraine very happy.
SOLOMON: Oh, yes. Happy, that would be good, too. Not a deal breaker, but a nice bonus. Mrs. Weissman, I am appointing you director of the nearly bankrupt division of Melamid Industries known as my daughters' marital prospects. Good luck. And if it's any incentive, the extended Melamid family is large, rich and homely, so there could be a lot of Melamid matches in your future.
– S4E5
SOLOMON: One more thing. Respectability is of the utmost importance to the Melamid family. We value decency, dignity and discretion, and we assume you and your family do as well.
– S4E5
