Biography

S4E8 - It's a chaotic morning at the Myerson office. Dinah, Susie and Maggie juggle phones as they field calls about Alfie, who is sitting on the couch next to James, annoying him.

S5E5 - James paces nervously as Dinah and Maggie try to get Helen Dyer on the phone to find out whether he got the big movie role he wants. Eventually, Susie talks to Helen and learns that the producer, David, is actually the one who can make the decision. Susie sets about trying to find him, and tells James to go off to a club to clear his head.

S5E5 - The morning after Susie confronts David in the bathhouse, she huddles nervously around the phone with Dinah and James. Eventually, the call comes in and James gets the role.

S5E7 - Jack Paar’s booker, Pete, refuses to book Midge on the show, but expresses interest in booking James. Susie wants to refuse out of anger, but Midge insists that she should not hurt James like that. Susie then calls James and asks him to decline the offer, but he refuses and tells Susie to book it, or he will fire her.

S5E8 - Dinah attempts to patch things up with James over the phone after Susie’s recent gaffe with the Jack Paar offer. She then tells Susie to go to Baltimore and apologize in-person, or else she might quit. After some grumbling, Susie assents.

Quotes & Dialogue

JAMES: Brother, you look like you killed somebody. Look, I killed somebody, too, so on the count of three, let's both say who we killed. Don't worry, nobody's listening anyway. One, two, three. Bing Crosby. Welched on a golf bet, so I smoked his ass.
– S4E7
JAMES: You know, I-I don't just play at smelly restaurants. I also play a wide range of upscale lavatories all across the tristate area.
– S4E7
SUSIE: You got management?
JAMES: Managers just take your money.
SUSIE: Oh, yeah? You got a lot of experience with managers?
JAMES: I've heard things.
– S4E7
ALFIE: I love when they talk about me like I'm not here. No, I really do.
JAMES: You know the minute they get another chair in here, our relationship is over, right?
– S4E8
JAMES: This part - this is my part, Susie. I can feel it. I've never wanted anything more in my life.
– S5E5
JAMES: “Her name was Diana, but I knew her as DiDi.”
SUSIE: Do not do the scene for me again. I will kill you if you do that scene for me again.
– S5E5
SUSIE: No, no, don't go, James. I got a good feeling about this.
JAMES: Good feeling? That's enough to get me on the subway if I find a dime and a nickel.
– S5E5
JAMES: My mother's gonna shit. She gonna shit, she gonna pass out, she gonna wake up and she gonna shit again.
SUSIE: Sounds like it's gonna be a rough night for your mother.
JAMES: Oh, man, I can't believe this year. Seven months ago, I was working for wings and fries at that chicken place, and now I'm in a movie, and I'm gonna be on Jack Paar. (laughs) Don't pinch me. I don't want to wake up.
– S5E7
