Quotes & Dialogue

IMOGENE: This place is perfectly filthy!
– S1E1
IMOGENE: He’s very… “Avant Garde”
– S1E1
IMOGENE: It's always those girls.
MIDGE: What girls?
IMOGENE: Those shorthand girls. Girls who go to secretarial school and learn shorthand, and that gives them entrée to our husbands. And once they have entrée to our husbands, our husbands entrée right into them.
MIDGE: Shorthand girls.
IMOGENE: I could have been a shorthand girl. I could have gone out into the workforce with my shorthand, but I didn't… I got married. I did it the right way.
MIDGE: Longhand.
IMOGENE: That's right.
– S1E2
IMOGENE: Oh, no, Ethan knows, because kids know everything. They're like those monkeys who know a tsunami's coming before everyone else. They know.
– S1E3
IMOGENE: Why does he call me Dody?
MIDGE: She was my friend growing up. It's sort of a catchall for whoever he sees me with.
– S1E7
ABE: And, young lady, I heard through the door that your name is not Dody… what is your name?
IMOGENE: Imogene.
ABE: I'm not gonna remember that.
– S1E7
IMOGENE: Stop using Iowa as an excuse for everything. My family may be dairy farmers, but they have a phone.
– S2E2
ROSE: Don't your friends have anyone to set you up with?
MIDGE: Nope.
ROSE: Not even that little blonde thing that talks all high and chirpy?
MIDGE: Imogene. Nope, all her friends are Gentiles.
– S2E4
MIDGE: You can't get fat from reading about food, Imogene.
IMOGENE: You aren't a scientist.
– S3E2
IMOGENE: These are your children, Archie. I just thought, since you're not home anymore, you might forget who they are and what they look like. And this is the reason you have those three children. Again, just to jog your memory.
ARCHIE: You don't think you're being a little dramatic?
IMOGENE: Am I? Maybe. People do weird things when they've been in isolation for too long.
ARCHIE: You're hardly in isolation. Your mother's there. The kids are there. And, by the way, you wrote the wrong name on one of those pictures. Unless you changed Eric to Pete while I was out.
IMOGENE: Ha! That was a test. Thank God you passed.
– S3E6
MIDGE: Well, this is lovely, isn't it? Perfect weather, like out of a movie.
IMOGENE: And in this movie, what does the spunky brunette want to talk to the little blonde dish about?
– S3E8
IMOGENE: You know, when we first started dating, Archie would sit outside my house for hours. The police never arrested him because, you know, he's Archie. He looks like a choirboy. He was a choirboy.
MIDGE: Mm.
IMOGENE: He's got a lovely baritone, by the way. But they would shoo him off. And the next day, he'd be right back there, sitting in the tree next to my bedroom window.
MIDGE: Romantic. With just a hint of creepy.
IMOGENE: I thought he'd be in my tree forever.
– S3E8
MIDGE: Be nicer, Imogene. We like Antonio.
IMOGENE: Sorry. It's my Nordic grandmother. I inherited her chilly rage.

ABE: I will never let you leave.
IMOGENE: I'm a hostage! Yay!
– S4E6
IMOGENE: Midge has always been quietly assertive. One of the many reasons why I love her.
– S4E7
IMOGENE: Jackie? Jackie Kennedy? Oh, my God. I want to be her very best friend!
– S4E7
IMOGENE: I had nothing to do with this, so I'll just be the person who pats people's arms.
