Gloria

Wolford dancer with political connections.

Biography

S4E2 - Midge does a set for Gloria, Rhonda and the other inmates while in jail.

S4E2 - Midge convinces Susie to bail Gloria out, with the promise that she will pay them back. The three take a taxi ride to the Wolford so she can do so.

S4E2 - Arriving at the Wolford, Gloria asks Bunny, Mitzi and the other strippers for money so she can pay Susie back for bail, but they’re as broke as her.

S4E4 - Midge continues to wage an uphill battle trying to improve the working conditions at the Wolford. She stands and watches as today's dancers (Gilded Age, Lana LaRue, Philomena, Sugar, Tilly, Bunny, Bubbles, Can Can Mademoiselle, Gloria, Mitzi, Cotton Ball and Sapphira), garbed in gnatty costumes with missing components, lethargically go through the motions of the finale. At the end of the act, the curtain fails to descend. When Midge goes out on stage to conclude the show, the band does not stop playing to let her talk, her spotlight takes forever to turn on, and when it finally does, her mic cuts out. After exchanging some terse words with Charlie and Boise, she goes over to Gloria, Bunny, Tilly and Mitzi and suggests that they rehearse the finale next time so it goes more smoothly, and offers to have Zelda fix up their costumes. Gloria invites Midge to movie night, but she has plans.

S4E4 - At the Wolford, Midge finally starts to make some headway. When Boise barges into the dressing room and tells Mitzi to move her ass, Midge firmly tells him to speak to the dancers with more respect, and to always knock at the door before entering. Gloria, Mitzi, Bunny, Philomena, Bubbles, Can Can Mademoiselle, Sapphira, Sugar, Gilded Age and Lana LaRue all look on, surprised and impressed. Later, she goes on stage, and does a set about the secret lives of stay-at-home wives which lands well. The dancers (Philomena, Sapphira, Cotton Ball, Gilded Age, Can-Can Mademoiselle, Mitzi, Gloria, Sugar) watch from the wings, enthralled, as do the wait staff on the theatre floor. Boise notices this, and angrily tells them to get back to work. At the end of her act, Midge introduces Trixie's Roaring 20's number. As she gets off stage, Midge tries to warn Trixie about the imminently descending curtain, but she is too late, and Trixie gets violently beaned in the head once again. As Midge goes backstage, Gloria gives her an unintentionally back-handed compliment, telling her that she's almost as good as the men comics.

S4E7 - Gloria overhears Midge talking with Imogene (who she brought to the Wolford for a night) about her money problems, and remembers about a line on a gig for Jackie Kennedy that she heard about from her father. She shares it with Midge, and it ultimately goes through.

S4E8 - Boise calls Midge at the hospital and begs her to come back. He recounts the disastrous outcome of Midge’s idea to send Mitzi, Bunny and Gloria up in her place.

S4E8 - Gloria is present when the cops raid the Wolford, the night Midge talks about Moishe. She runs into the dressing room, throws her coat over her costume, and gets out while many of the other girls are still chaotically milling around. Since she gets out relatively early, it is likely that she successfully avoids arrest. Furthermore, since she does not appear again in the series, it may be that the raid scares her off from coming back.

Quotes & Dialogue

GLORIA: This your first time?
MIDGE: In jail? God, no. You?
GLORIA: Yeah.
– S4E2
GLORIA: I always take the subway. When you get off the A train, it's two blocks up and one over. Does that help?
– S4E2
GLORIA: We should do the finale earlier in the show. We're tired by then.
MIDGE: Or some rehearsal might help. Unless the crashing into each other is a creative choice.
GLORIA: No, that just happens.
– S4E4
GLORIA: Boy, you're almost as funny as the men comics.
– S4E4
GLORIA: Oh, shoot, I forgot. I've got a lead for you on a gig, Midge.
MIDGE: Hmm?
GLORIA: You've heard of John F. Kennedy?
MIDGE: Name rings a bell.
GLORIA: My dad told me there's a big New York fundraiser for him coming up. Wives For Kennedy. Jackie's throwing it.
IMOGENE: Jackie? Jackie Kennedy? Oh, my God. I want to be her very best friend!
GLORIA: She's John F. Kennedy's wife.
MIDGE: Her name rings a bell, too.
GLORIA: They need a comedian. One that looks like a lady. It was Jackie's request. A lady comedian. 'Cause it's all ladies.
MIDGE: Does it pay?
IMOGENE: Who the hell cares? Kennedy. She'll do it!
GLORIA: It pays. You just can't say dirty stuff.
IMOGENE: She won't. She'll do it.
MIDGE: I'll do it. Thanks, Gloria.
GLORIA: I'll jot down the number to call.
MIDGE: So how's your dad involved in this?
GLORIA: Oh, he's a senator.
MIDGE: A senator?
GLORIA: Yep.
MIDGE: I don't get it.
GLORIA: Are you not familiar with our bicameral system of legislature?
MIDGE: No, I am.
GLORIA: Because you didn't seem that familiar with John F. Kennedy.
– S4E7
BUNNY: We got a new sign to go on the door here. On one side, it says, “We're open. Please come inside.” And on the other side, it says, “Sorry we're closed.”
MITZI: I don't get it.
GLORIA: I don't think that's what it says.
BUNNY: What it fucking says. I'm looking at it right here. “Sorry we're…”
GLORIA: “Clothed.” It says, “Sorry we're clothed.” Like we have our clothes on.
BUNNY: Okay. And on the other side, it says, “Sorry we're clothed.”
MITZI: I still don't get it.
– S4E8
