Biography
S4E2 - Gabe greets Abe as he arrives at the Village Voice for his first day, and introduces him to the gang (Terrence, Bernice, Jerry, Leonard, Gilbert, Jules, and Kev). When Abe mentions that he read every back issue except for one that he could not find, Gabe tasks Carol with fetching that back issue.
S4E2 - Gabe finishes editing Abe’s work, and gives him his first paycheck.
S4E3 - Gabe convinces Abe to write an honest review of ‘They Came, They Danced’, despite his personal connections with Buzz.
S4E8 - Gabe solicits opinions on the prospective headlines for different elective outcomes, and tries to help Abe get an obituary for Moishe published in the New York Times by calling in a favor. He is not particularly successful in either endeavour.
S5E2 - At the Village Voice, Terrence reminds Abe about his imminent get-to-know-you lunch with Penelope, and lets him know what to expect. He expresses regret that he cannot come along, due to his current cold. When Terrence's sneezes begin to interfere with his explanations, Gabe takes over and guides Abe the rest of the way out the door.
S5E2 - Arriving back at the Village Voice, Abe pulls Gabe aside and performs the contact that Penelope did with him on Gabe, inquiring whether he's right in thinking that it's sexual. Gabe confirms that it very much is, and Abe explains the situation, expressing his immense discomfort at what happened and his worry that Rose will figure it out somehow. Gabe is surprised, because Penelope has never made a pass at him. He promises never to put Abe in such a situation again, then he asks Terrence whether she's ever made a pass at him, and is surprised to learn that Terrence is gay and has been living with Maury in accounting. This provokes a lightbulb moment as Gabe realizes why Maury has the same cold as Terrence.
S5E3 - Gabe calls Abe from the Village Voice to let him know that the correction announcement he wrote for his typo needs to be a hundred times shorter. Suddenly, an operator busts into the call, announcing an emergency call from Susie Myerson. Abe tries to decline it, but soon Susie is on the line with Abe and Gabe. Susie complains that the Weissman phone has been busy all morning, and Abe explains that he has been trying to personally call every Village Voice subscriber to apologize for his typo. Fed up, Gabe hangs up, and Abe reluctantly hands Susie's call off to its intended recipient, Midge.
S5E4 - Abe and Rose dine with Gabe, Tuppance, Lucy and Toby after seeing the premiere of Carl’s new play. Abe and Rose get into a heated argument about the interpretation of the play, undeterred by the other diners’ attempts to change the subject. Ultimately, Rose goes over to Carl, who is dining in another booth, and definitively proves Abe wrong by getting Carl’s rationale.
S5E8 - Abe goes out to dinner with Gabe, Arthur and Henry. The group sits and talks for a long time without ordering. Tovar, the waiter, attempts to get their order many times, but Henry violently repudiates his food descriptions as pretentious. Maudlin from his recent sixty-fourth birthday, and the growing realization that Esther is the prodigy in Midge’s bloodline and not Ethan, Abe remains silent for most of the evening. Eventually, Gabe calls him out for it, prompting him to voice his struggle. This leads Henry to reflect on the growing rate of change in society and Arthur to tell a story about a moment of dissociation from his and his wife’s things. Finally, Abe shares an epiphany about how wrong he has been all his life about the roles of men and women, and how he has failed to properly support and appreciate his daughter. After a moment of stunned silence, Henry finally concedes that they ought to order something.
S5E9 - Midge calls Abe at work to inform him that she’ll be on The Gordon Ford Show tonight, and that he and Rose need to be there. The voices of Abe’s co-workers can be faintly heard in the background, presumably including Gabe, Terrence, Kev and Bernice (since their actors are listed in the credits). It is likely that there was a more extended scene with them which was left out of the final cut.
Quotes & Dialogue
GABE: Garbagemen are not going on strike.
JERRY: Says who?
GABE: Me. I just said it.
– S4E2
GABE: Abe Weissman! There you are.
ABE: I'm sorry, am I late? I-I was told the meeting started at 10:00.
GABE: You are not late. Three of us slept here last night, two of us not because their wives kicked them out.
GILBERT: She didn't kick me out. She just wouldn't let me in.
GABE: And when we woke up, the meeting informally commenced.
– S4E2
GABE: An exhilarating read. I had to look up a couple of words here or there. I was top of my class at Princeton, Abe. I usually know words.
ABE: I can change them.
GABE: Let our readers dust off their dictionaries. It'll be good for them.
– S4E2
GABE: Abe Weissman, stop right there. Give me a three-sixty. A cape is not an easy thing to pull off, my friend.
– S4E3
ABE: We've known this kid ten years. I watched him fall into a lake. I pulled him out…
GABE: Maybe you shouldn't have. Dark thought, I know. Okay, Abe, how about this? Skip the specifics. Use the show to get to the big picture - your thoughts on everything that's wrong in the theater today. Get angry. Be personal. That's why we hired you, Abe. For your voice. Don't let them get duped.
– S4E3
GABE: Okay, time-out. I will call Simon Mellman at The Times. Isobel, get Simon for me.
ISOBEL: Okay.
GABE: Simon is a very good friend of mine, and he owes me several favors, three-hundred dollars, and a fiancée.
– S4E8
GABE: I know, but this is a favor. Simon, let me remind you that you stole Diana from me at my own birthday party. Yes, you did, you traitorous asshole! And I think the very least you could do for me now is have one of your obit guys type up a goddamn obit for this man. And give me my three-hundred dollars back! Well, fuck you! Listen up, everybody. Simon Mellman is persona non grata from now on. Never met him, never heard of him. He is Nikolai Khokhlov, and we are Russia. And these are the covers. And if you have a problem with that, suck it!
– S4E8
ABE: Is this sexual?
GABE: So many thoughts running through my mind right now, Abe.
– S5E2
GABE: Terrence, has Penelope ever made a pass at you?
TERRENCE: Uh-uh. She knows I'm a homosexual.
GABE: What? Since when?
TERRENCE: Since birth, probably.
GABE: But you're married.
TERRENCE: Oh, I left my wife years ago. I live with Maury now.
GABE: From accounting? With the cold! Terrence, we need to talk more.
– S5E2
GABE: Wasn't Maury married?
TERRENCE: He lived with his sister.
GABE: That was his sister? I am so out of the loop.
– S5E2
GABE: Retreat, retreat, retreat.
– S5E3
GABE: Abe, the Village Voice does not encourage employee sobriety. In fact, it thrives on its employee's crapulence. Now drink, damn it, or you are fired.
– S5E8

Trivia
- Chris Eigeman also appeared in the Palladinos’ previous series, Gilmore Girls and Bunheads, as Jason Stiles and Conor respectively. He also worked as a director on Bunheads (which is fitting, because the character that he played in the show was a director).
