Biography
S2E2 - Stan & Eugene conspire to ruin Midge’s first gig at the 15th Street Comedy Club. First, they approach her and belittle her for her gender while suggesting that she slept her way to the top with Lenny Bruce. Then, they repeatedly bump her later in the show with the complicity of Bobby. When Eugene goes on, he scoops a bit that Midge was planning involving an audience member’s hat (possibly unintentionally). When Midge is finally able to go on, however, she has a successful set anyways, and she roasts Stan & Eugene in the process. The two are upset by this, as is Bobby, who considers them to be reliable earners. In the end, however, both Bobby and Eugene get over it and have amicable interactions with Midge later on.
S2E8 - Eugene greets Midge at the Stage Deli while she is having lunch with Imogene. Midge asks how his gig in Florida went, and he says well. He tries to hit on Imogene, but backs off quickly when he learns she’s pregnant.
S3E8 - Midge is sharing a lunch and some good-natured teasing repartee with fellow comics Shelly, Fief, and Eugene as well as Eugene’s girlfriend Sally at The Stage Deli when Benjamin barges in and confronts her about Rose’s matchmaking attempt, and other unaired grievances aside. Midge’s erstwhile lunch buddies not-so-discreetly listen in as the drama unfolds.
S4E1 - Eugene and Sally pop by Midge and Susie’s booth at the Stage Deli to tease them about being dropped by Shy Baldwin and to share the L. Roy Dunham article about it.
S5E7 - Eugene is among a select group of comics in a showcase for Jack Paar. He bombs. Afterwards, he shares a smoke with Midge and congratulates her on her (much better) act.
Quotes & Dialogue
EUGENE: Excuse me. Uh, Mrs. Maisel, is it?
MIDGE: Midge is fine. Oh.
EUGENE: Midge is fine. Isn't Midge fine?
– S2E2
MIDGE: We know that if, say, Eugene over there, came up to you at a bar in his big-boy suit, with his tiny baby hands, and no opening line pre-written for him, he'd be sent crawling home alone to whack off in his onesie.
– S2E2
EUGENE: The first moment I saw Midge Maisel, I thought, “That is one red-hot cocktail waitress.”
FIEF: French-restaurant-level cocktail waitress.
EUGENE: When I found out she was a comic, you could have knocked me over with a feather.
MIDGE: I would've preferred a mallet.
EUGENE: Yeah, and now she's scored a tour with Shy Baldwin.
SHELLY: Knife in my heart right here.
EUGENE: While I still think she'd make a red-hot cocktail waitress…
FIEF: I'd definitely exceed my two-drink minimum.
EUGENE: She has since proven a good sport, a tough competitor, the best-smelling person in a club.
FIEF: Not that that's hard.
EUGENE: I can honestly say, from the bottom of my heart… Fuck you, Mrs. Maisel!
– S3E8
EUGENE: Well, my work here is done.
MIDGE: You are a sad, little man, Eugene.
EUGENE: I am. But I have my moments.
SALLY: No, he doesn't.
– S4E1
EUGENE: I love being a comedian, because even though people are judging me up here, at least they've been drinking.
– S5E7
EUGENE: But coming up next is a good friend of mine, be kind, Mrs. Maisel.
– S5E7
EUGENE: You got any arsenic on you?
MIDGE: Oh, shoot. Other purse.
EUGENE: Just my luck. Last smoke?
MIDGE: I'm guessing you weren't happy with your set.
EUGENE: What was not to be happy about? They coughed, they talked, they ordered drinks. It was like Sunday night bingo without the door prize.
MIDGE: It wasn't that bad.
EUGENE: Yeah. It wasn't that good, either. You were, though.
MIDGE: I was okay.
EUGENE: “Okay.” Sure.
