Biography
S5E3 - (Flashforward) In 1984, Midge flies in a helicopter to a kibbutz in Israel where Ethan is living, much to the dismay of all who live there. Ethan and Midge go to a barn to talk, and Midge explains that she has come to make sure he joins her for the UJA-Federation award ceremony, where she is to be honored. Ethan is exasperated with his mother, but he ultimately relents. He then introduces his mother to Chava, and reveals that he is engaged to her. Midge is shocked, but takes the news with relative good humor. Chava does not like midge, and she ominously stalks after Midge and Ethan as they walk back to the helicopter. As Midge takes off, Chava goes over to Ethan and expresses her disapproval, to which he shrugs non-committally.
S5E6 - (Flashforward) At Temple Shearith Israel in 1985, Joel was in temple with Midge, Chava, Ethan and Little Rose As the Cantor was wrapping up Aw Mein and the Rabbi was taking over, FBI Agent Scanlon barged in and arrested Joel for his involvement with the mob.
Quotes & Dialogue
CHAVA: I understand marriage is not a happy topic for you. Ethan told me about your divorce.
MIDGE: Oh, yeah? Which one?
CHAVA: (in Yiddish) Not to have felt pain is not to have been human.
MIDGE: Well, that was beautiful… I assume. So, Chava, are your parents kibbutz-ers, too?
CHAVA: No. I was born in Tel Aviv but we moved to Minnesota when my father became head of surgery at the Mayo Clinic. I moved back to join the army. I didn't see much combat, but I did break my leg in four places when my parachute opened late. I was separated from my platoon, so I had to set it myself and climb a date tree to sleep in. I still get teased about that.

CHAVA: I don't like her.
ETHAN: Well, she's my mother.
