Biography
S4E1 - After playing tricks on two older patrons, Alfie introduces himself to Susie and hypnotizes her.
S4E4 - Still filled with rage from the awkward scene with Midge, determined to advance her management business, Susie barges into the bar where she met Alfie and escorts him out, just as he is being punched by a fellow patron.
S4E4 - At her new office/apartment, Susie plans out her renovations as Alfie lies on her couch where he has supposedly lain for the last three days, recovering from a hangover.
S4E5 - Alfie unsuccessfully attempts a trick in front of Midge and Susie, who are sharing in puzzlement over having been invited to Shy’s wedding.
S4E6 - Alfie sits on Susie’s bed enjoying the gifts that Sophie has been showering on Susie. When Susie has trouble finding Joel’s Chinatown club, he advises her to task Alfie with it. He is searching for a cookie, which he eventually finds under him.
S4E6 - Alfie ducks out of performing at Joel’s club and hides in a Chinatown store. Susie track him down and gives him a pep talk, agreeing to cancel today’s gig but making him promise to do one tomorrow.
S4E7 - Astrid and Noah attend Alfie’s showcase with Abe, Rose and Midge. Alfie hypnotizes Rose into reenacting Midge’s Wolford act, causing fights between Astrid and Noah, Abe and Rose, and Midge and Rose.
S4E8 - It's a chaotic morning at the Myerson office. Dinah, Susie and Maggie juggle phones as they field calls about Alfie, who is sitting on the couch next to James, annoying him.
S5E1 - At the Stage Deli, the patrons eat a Thanksgiving dinner consisting of things brought in by various people from the neighborhood. At the good booth, Susie and Alfie eat as Susie prepares him for an upcoming two-week stint at the Hacienda in Vegas. Alfie does not want to fly on a plane, which becomes a point of contention.
S5E1 - Susie’s argument with Alfie about flying and her broken tooth (both of which began in the Deli) continue to trouble her a few days later, and she calls Midge to enlist her help in perp walking Alfie down to the airport.
S5E1 - Midge escorts Alfie to the airport, and holds his cape hostage so he’ll have no choice but to go on his flight. In the lobby, Alfie shares that he’s considering abandoning Susie for a different manager, but Midge talks him into staying. The two then enter and talk with a very nice gate agent, who furnishes Alfie with a little sign labeling him as an unaccompanied minor.
S5E5 - Susie calls Alfie and berates him for buying a llama - and for the high hotel bills that have come with owning a llama.
S5E9 - Alfie appears mysteriously next to Susie in the middle of Midge’s breakout set on The Gordon Ford Show. When Susie asks how he got there, he simply attributes it to magic.
Quotes & Dialogue
ALFIE: Oh, well, I'm very famous. I perform for crown heads of Europe. And the rest of their bodies if they're still attached. I have met the queen. She matched me drink for drink, and then we… Slippery stool here. Now, wouldn't that be a story? Cause of death: slippery barstool. Not a manly death like fighting in a war or choking on steak.
SUSIE: Christ.
ALFIE: Take a card. I'm a pacifist and a vegetarian, so I guess it's the deadly barstool for me. Put it back. Ooh. This your card?
– S4E1
ALFIE: You know, it was just about 20 years ago to the day that I won the Major Bowes Amateur Hour. I was 12.
SUSIE: Impressive.
ALFIE: Orson Welles took me to lunch. He ordered for both of us. Then he asked a very pertinent question: “What does it mean for a magician to perform on radio?”
SUSIE: That's a pretty good question.
ALFIE: And then he ate both lunches.
SUSIE: Sounds like Orson.
ALFIE: When he finished, he went to the john and I drank his martini, and I liked it. It was like punch but with that terrific snap.
– S4E6
SUSIE: I got a good eye, Alfie. You are client number two of what's gonna be a roster of groundbreaking fucking clients, so I am not giving up on you.
ALFIE: Lost causes - is that your specialty?
SUSIE: I don't know. Ask Sigmund fucking Freud.
ALFIE: I can, you know. I talk to the dead.
– S4E6
ALFIE: Ethan… Esther… Chaim…
– S4E7
ALFIE: Tell me about your children.
ROSE: My son is brilliant. A mathematician, like his father.
ALFIE: And your daughter?
ROSE: She's like you.
ALFIE: An undiagnosed schizophrenic?
– S4E7
ALFIE: Thank you for joining me tonight. It was my great honor. The little boy inside me is grateful, as well. Are you still wondering what my superpower was? It was always this. That I could hold you. Your attention, your interest. Oh. And that I could make really neat exits.
– S4E7
ALFIE: Pick a card.
JAMES: I am not picking a card.
ALFIE: Fine. I'll just look through your wallet instead. Ah. She's got other boyfriends.
JAMES: You know that's not magic. That's five to ten where I come from.
ALFIE: Not if you ask them to pick a card first.
– S4E8
ALFIE: Plane ticket? I can't fly.
SUSIE: No, the plane flies, you just sit in it.
ALFIE: I can't go on a plane. They make no sense. I mean, what keeps them up?
SUSIE: I don't know, what keeps a bird up?
ALFIE: Worries about money?
– S5E1
ALFIE: (in an airport) Why are all these people leaving? Is there gonna be some sort of invasion that I don't know about?
– S5E1
ALFIE: So, I got a phone call the other day, which was surprising, since I didn't know I had a phone. It was from a man… a talent manager.
MIDGE: And what did he want?
ALFIE: He said he'd seen one of my shows. He said he thought I was very talented and that I could be bigger than Houdini, which is ridiculous. I'm already bigger than Houdini. Houdini was a very tiny man. That's why he fit so easily in a box.
MIDGE: Did you tell him you already have a manager?
ALFIE: I did. He said he knew Susie Myerson and that she was an elevator operator.
MIDGE: A what?
ALFIE: Someone you meet going up or going down. He said if you want to be on top, you have to get off the elevator. At the top, presumably.
MIDGE: Alfie, do you know why you're getting on this plane?
ALFIE: Because you stole my cape.
MIDGE: Because you are about to play a two-thousand-seat room in Vegas. You have top billing, amazing accommodations, and you are making more money than you've ever seen in your life.
ALFIE: That's not true. I slept in a safe once.
MIDGE: Six months ago, you were hustling drunks in a bar. You were done. No one cared what happened to you. No one except Susie Myerson.
ALFIE: I know that.
MIDGE: It's easy to see a diamond once it's in the window at Tiffany's. It's a little harder when it's throwing up in a bucket in your office. Susie is one of a kind. You'll never find another Susie. You just remember that.
– S5E1
ALFIE: You sound upset.
SUSIE: You bought a fuckin’ llama.
ALFIE: And?
SUSIE: Why?!
ALFIE: Why does anyone buy a llama? For my act, of course. Her name is Catherine, by the way.
– S5E5
SUSIE: How the hell did you get there?
ALFIE: I'm magic.
– S5E9
