Alan

One of Abe’s communist friends that he met at the White Horse Tavern.

Biography

S3E2 - Midge comes home one night to find Abe hanging out with Ezra, Alan and Madeline, discussing their new broadsheet. She also observes Corey and Bishop sleeping in the study, who Abe had not known about. Despite her request to keep the noise down, they seriously disturb her night’s sleep.

S3E2 - The next morning, Midge awakens to find that there are even more communists than before, and they are taking full advantage of Zelda, despite their supposed proletariat values. Michael Kessler is also present, helping Abe with his free speech case, leading Abe and Midge to learn that they share a lawyer and Michael to learn that Miriam is Abe’s daughter.

S3E2 - Midge returns to the apartment later to find that there are yet more communist beatniks, some of them singing, and that they have cleared out the fridge. While eating a bowl of cereal, Ezra advises Midge and Joel not to raise a child in this environment. Zelda’s loyalties are put to the test as Midge and Madeline give her contradictory orders, with Midge eventually winning out.

S3E4 - Abe visits Kessler's office with Ezra, Alan and Madeline to plan out the next stage of their glorious revolution, only to learn that the charges against him have been dismissed. Angered, the four plan to occupy the offices of the district attorney in protest, but run into scheduling difficulties.

S3E5 - Abe has Ezra, Alan and Madeline over at Moishe and Shirley’s, but they get kicked out and are forced to continue their conversation on the subway. Abe gets into an argument with the other three about minutiae of their newspaper, ultimately ending with the three losing interest in Abe and deriding him as an old, out of touch man.

EZRA: No, Abe, it's good, it's fine.
ALAN: Yeah, it helps us understand what we're fighting against.
